La Marque High School student Alex Vargas is representing Texas City ISD through an artwork selected for the 2026 txEDCON TASA/TASB Exhibition in Houston.

Alex’s piece, titled “I'm Not Illegal because I am Hispanic,” is on display at the George R. Brown Convention Center during the October 8–11 conference. Presented by the Texas Art Education Association’s Youth Art Month Program, the exhibition features selected artwork by students in prekindergarten through 12th grade from across Texas.

Texas City ISD Board of Trustees members are currently attending the conference and stopped by the exhibition to see Alex’s artwork and celebrate this achievement.

The conference brings together the Texas Association of School Administrators and the Texas Association of School Boards. The student art exhibition and accompanying advocacy booth highlight the importance of quality visual arts programs in schools.

Congratulations to Alex on this honor and for representing La Marque High School and Texas City ISD through art! Her art teacher is Joan Finn.
